farewell FOREVER BOOK by RANDAL L. WOTEN BOOK COVER ILLUSTRATION
buy on amazon PROJECT OVERVIEW Local author and comedian Randal L. Woten, hired me to illustrate the cover of his book Farewell Forever, which is a collection of short stories. He also had a clear vision and it was of a futuristic city skyline. I sketched out the skyline in pencil and then refined with ink. I used Adobe Photoshop to edit the illustration and add the background and typography. METHODOLOGY Randal L. Woten approached me to illustrate the cover of his first book after the work I did for Jacob Thornburg. For his collection of short stories, he had a very clear idea that involved a futuristic skyline. I sketched the initial concept with graphite pencil and then inked it. From there I scanned the illustration into Adobe Photoshop and edited the image, adding the sunset like background sky using the brush tool. I kept some white outlining the pillars and poles protruding into the sky to simulate lights and reflections. I chose Gothink Black Condensed for the tall thin letter forms and clean presentation that made the title easy to read, and had a futuristic quality to it. Finally, to add a little more visual interest, I added refracted light effect to make it look like you might be viewing the cityscape through a camera lens. typography
