a killer solo project mixed media magazine single page spread ILLUSTRATION
PROJECT OVERVIEW This full-page magazine illustration was a project for Mixed Media G210 at The Art Institute of Pittsburgh. The article was written by Mike Levine titled ‘A Killer Solo Project.” Piece was created using chalk pastels, acrylic paint, and watercolor, digitized and text added in Adobe Photoshop. METHODOLOGY For this project the class had to research and select a magazine article to design a full page magazine illustration. After selecting the article by Mike Levine, I chose to develop imagery combining the the studio album by recording artist titled "Flamingo" and how the article discusses the album being recorded at a studio in the desert. Using a combination of acrylic and water color paints, along with chalk pastel and colored pencil, the imagery I created for the mixed media illustration was of a plastic lawn flamingo set against a desert scene. I wanted to explore the contrast between a lawn ornament and a barren waste-land. I chose Blenny Black for the the headline text because the letter forms have a very Las Vegas feel, and I used Impact for the body text to contrast the headline text with a bold type. typography
